Great (sorta) PM Mantra

  • Several of your project team members get pulled off the project to work for someone else in your organization. You will make do.
  • You learn that an essential piece of equipment that was promised to you is two weeks late. You will improvise.
  • You discover that several key assumptions you made during the project planning and early implementation phases turned out to be wildly off the mark. You will adjust.
  • One-third of the way into the project a mini-crisis develops in your domestic life. You will get by.

Jeff Davidson

It’s all in the bottle.

Now, I’m not the type to worry (I kid - I am usually the first to worry) but I thought that my New Year’s resolution to “drink more water” was fairly safe. That is, until I found out about miscarriages and down syndrome.

I was sitting at my desk, minding my own business, sipping water contently out of my shiny purple Nalgene bottle that I adored, when a coworker forwarded me an article that was in the Metro that morning - claiming that reusing plastic bottles (like my purple Nalgene bottle) caused harm to our bodies by leaching out Bisphenol A, that does fairly un-good things to our bodies.

The research on chromosome damage, by a team of Case Western Reserve scientists, found that bisphenol A leaching out of polycarbonate bottles used to provide water to mice caused a chromosomal error in cell division called aneuploidy. In humans, aneuploidy is the biggest cause of miscarriages and birth defects, including Down Syndrome, that has been identified.

Within 15 minutes of hearing the news, I shoved $10 at a coworker (who has a membership to Mountain Equipment Co-op) who then bought us aluminum water bottles - and now, I have an aluminum water bottle with a purple topper (purely by coincidence, he picked out the colours).

In conclusion: Alzheimer’s is better than my offspring having Down Syndrome.

Today’s Wishes

I have two wishes today.

1. Sensible Shoes

shoe.gifI am really looking forward to Spring weather and, of course, Spring shoes (even though I got a wicked deal on a pair of boots last week for 60% off). I am on the prowl for a pair of really comfortable shoes that are equally as sexy. While that combination is fairly hard to find, I am leaning towards a pair of Cole Haan Nike Airs. Just looking through their catalogue makes me drool and anticipate the warm weather. Soon enough, my pretties!

2. Curly Hair

hair.gifMy hair is wavy, and frizzy. Not quite straight, not quite curly - but a whooole lot of hair. It is both a burden (you could probably make 4 dogs with the amount of hair I shed in a span of 1 week) and a blessing (I don’t really have to worry about balding?). Sometimes, though, the grass is greener on the other side. I may consider getting a perm sometime soon (and I’d love for my hair to look like the icon!) but today, it’s just a wish!

Until next time… lataaaaa!
